Faithhouse Mission Report, August 2018

SUBMITTED BY PASTOR RICHARDS AKONAM

We would like to use this medium to thank you for your prayers and support towards the task of both sharing and offering humanitarian services to the unreached in this part of the world.

Of a truth, the work is getting bigger and more expensive. We know that God will keep enlarging and raising men who’d uphold your hands in the task He has given to you.

August presented us with meetings like Camp meeting with Teenage girls held in conjunction with The VALOR. The girls were camped at The Safari Lodge, Utanga for Four days. We had our brethren –Mrs. Mercy Ukpe, Elder (Mrs) Beatrice Odoro and Grace Ukot from Insight Bible Church, Uyo, Preach Richards, Rev. Ugbeson, Grace Richards, Dr. Francis Ime Eyo and Mrs. Grace Umana as resource persons.

Some small group fellowship have sprung up after the Camp meeting where the teenage girls are been trained and challenged to make the best use of their live opportunities.

We also had a trip with some of our mission workers to Calabar where we shared lively and awesome fellowship with Hermon City Church, Brook Church and attended a Weeklong Missions Conference hosted by Great Faith Believers Assembly, all in Calabar.

By the grace of God, we have been able to begin an interdenominational chapel at the Adagom Refugee settlement in Ogoja. Refugees in Northern Cross River –Amana, Utanga, Obudu Cattle Ranch, Agbokim, Ikom, Bashua, are all been moved to the Refugee Camp. The Camp will give accommodation to 4000 refugees.

Part of the challenge we have begun to pray about is the mix of tribes within the camp. Most of those from the Akwaya Sub-division are not exposed to civilization; by reason of their location in the forest, they are not familiar with tarred roads, vehicles, and electricity. This is in contrast to other refugees from the Agbokim area who are so exposed to ‘life’ of wild fashion and rough in their ways of approach to issues and things. They even fought within themselves on arrival to the Camp. They call and address the Akwaya sub-division people as ‘REFUGEES’!

Through God, we have had series of meetings with local believers within the Camp and ministers in Abakpa-Ogoja (host community where Camp is located) towards harnessing the opportunities for soul winning presented to us, by God Himself.

I am excited at the prospect of this Refugee meetings because most of these tribes are among the 99 unreached groups of Becheve, Oluti, Bakosi and other tribes in Akwaya Sub-Division of Cameroon; they were not accessible because of distance and difficult terrain leading to their communities. BUT See how God has pushed them out for to have an opportunity to hear the message of God’s redeeming love!

This is why I believe we should not treat this opportunity lightly.

The meeting regarding Vivian’s freedom held on the 31st of August. Though Mama Monica was beaten and further threatened, Vincent, his sons and a few kinsmen were: (1) not satisfied with the money brought by Ma Monica and (2) they were afraid to collect even the part that she brought – afraid that she knows Pastor Richards and that collecting the money might land them is serious trouble. She is set to return to visit them again. In the meantime, Vivian is fine and top-geared for school.

We call for your prayers and active involvement as the work is growing. The threats are getting rougher and higher too but our trust and resolve rests in God.

Urgent Needs for effective coordination and ministry among the Refugee:

  1. A Mackie Rechargeable Speaker (N150.000) or a MAM 100 Public Address Trolley Speaker System (179,000). We have gotten a portable generator.
  2. Easy to read Bibles. 3. Used clothes for adults and children, shoes, and rechargeable touch lights. 4. Finance for initial movement from our base to Camp until capable hands are raised within the Camp. It costs an average of N6000 (Six Thousand Naira) for each weekend trip.

We are grateful that God made us meet in this course of life. Our friendship will further God’s mission on earth. I believe so. I deeply do believe so.

Thank you!
